These days there are a lot of scams popping-up in the health sector. Ensure before you choose your dietitian to ask your self  “Is my Dietitian Qualified? ” This is a vital question to be asked before you visit any diet clinic for weight loss especially when you suffering from any disease and undergoing medication.

One cannot designate himself as a Dietitian by merely writing diet blogs or making youtube videos. Beware of self-styled diet consultants who call themselves a nutritionist or dietitian without having any formal education and experience in the relevant field. Let us understand what is a formal qualification of a Dietitian; In India, a practicing dietitian should have a degree in Dietetics and Food Service Management. Being a qualified dietitian indicates that one has received the highest level of training needed to serve their community safely by dispensing accurate, science-based information. It is a legally protected title that is only given to those who have undergone rigorous science-based academic and hands-on training in dietetics.

You may find in your city various Diet Consultant by the name of Diet Clinic, Weight Loss Centers, or Naturopaths & Diet Care Clinic. Some of which may work as a franchise without having any professional qualification. The so-called diet consultants who call themselves a nutritionist or dietitian without having any formal education and experience in the relevant field.

Let us understand what is the formal qualification of a Dietitian. In India a patrician dietitian should be Bachelors or Master in Dietetics and Food Service Management. Being a qualified dietitian indicates one has received the highest level of training needed to serve their community safely by dispensing accurate, science-based information. It is a legally protected title that is only given to those who have undergone rigorous science-based academic and hands-on training in dietetic internships.

 Many people claim to be experts in nutrition yet have very limited knowledge and do not offer protection to the public. Choosing the right person from whom to seek help and advice can sometimes be a confusing task. This is not helped by an increasing number of self- proclaimed or alternative ‘nutrition practitioners’ emerging from informal courses. Unfortunately, for those who use the services of these unqualified ‘nutrition practitioners’, the advice or therapy provided may be ineffective, inappropriate, and potentially unsafe.
